A TOUCH OF ITALIAN

This is what is often called a cup plate but could just as easily be a plate from a miniature service. What is interesting about it is the fact that, at first glance, it appears to be printed with a section of Spode’s Italian pattern. However, nothing else about it is quite right for the Spode version, even given the cutting of the transfer, and we wonder whether it is a product of the Clews factory, especially as the colour is rather “inky” and darker than Spode.
